Getting the Word Out on Immunotherapy

Greg Guthrie at the website, Cancer.Net, has published my guest blog. Please check it out. FYI, my last treatment went fine, and Elvira and I had another golf outing this week. Together, we had four pars in nine holes!

  1. So glad to finally find something "human" about immunotherapy. My husband is also on it, and the information is very limited, and the comprehension and support almost non-existant! I actually bumped into a mutual friend of ours who told me about your blog. I'd be interested to hear how your wife, who sounds amazing, copes with the stress of being what I call myself, "the invisible patient." Thanks Jen H.

    1. Hi Jen. So sorry not to have responded earlier, but i didn't realize that I had comments that did not appear on Facebook. Anyway, I think your observation about the "invisible patient" is right on because my wife, Elvira, has been with me every step of this tortuous journey. She's an amazing woman. After the emotional trauma of hearing the diagnosis, we decided to treat the process as a project like we had when we worked at UC Santa Barbara, where we met, and believe in the process the oncologist laid out for us. Thank heaven for immunotherapy drugs, which gave us hope. I wish you and your husband the same hope and find your path to freedom from this horrible disease. Also, I should mention that Elvira faces every one of life's problems head-on. She learned how to do that when her sister died, and she never takes a step backward, no matter how fierce the emotional storm is. And since February, we have added a Corgi puppy to our household, which has been a lot of fun. Thanks for writing and best wishes,
      Bryant
